The Challenge and Opportunity
When modernizing IT operations, our client—a large health system—depends on CTG to ensure legacy ancillary applications are running smoothly. Maintaining the functionality of legacy systems when migrating to new systems is paramount to ensure uninterrupted patient care. Dual-system environments demand meticulous management to avoid disruptions and support adherence to healthcare mandates. Furthermore, training staff on new systems while supporting the existing ones can significantly strain the IT team’s resources.
The Solution and Results
To navigate the complexities of IT system migrations, the health system has partnered with CTG for support of legacy ancillary applications, delivered via a managed services model, to ensure continuous patient care.
- Laboratory Information System (LIS) Migration: Our client decided to transition their legacy SoftLab® LIS to Epic Beaker. CTG’s application experts guaranteed continued support for SoftLab® while freeing the internal team to focus on the build and staff training for the new Epic Beaker system. We employed a flexible approach, providing a right-sized team with the necessary skills for support. This included a break/fix service model that ensured compliance throughout the migration process.
- Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) Migration: The health system is deploying a new enterprise imaging technology, Sectra, to replace legacy PACS systems. A critical element for this transition is maintaining access to more than 17 years of imaging data and legacy systems. CTG seamlessly integrated veteran team members to provide essential maintenance and keep-the-lights-on support of their legacy imaging infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted clinical operations during their migration journey. The team currently supports the applications during client business hours and participates in rotating after-hours and weekend coverage.
