Digital Transformation in the Real World: Examples From 3 Industries
As the pandemic rapidly shifted the world toward remote work and e-commerce, businesses in every industry responded quickly. They turned their attention toward digital transformation strategies and sped up the development of digital products and services. However, not all company leaders felt confident moving so quickly: The 2021 Deloitte Global resilience report found that 70% of leaders felt uncertain about their organizations’ abilities to adapt in the face of the unexpected.
In times of uncertainty or rapid change, a reliable, trusted partner can be the difference between success and failure. CTG’s deep industry expertise and proven methodologies are helping organizations meet the imperative to accelerate digital transformation without sacrificing quality. Explore how CTG has helped companies in three different industries make real-world progress toward digital transformation:
Oil and Gas
As the oil and gas industry faces thinner margins and increasing environmental regulations, precision becomes critical. Companies need to embrace digital transformation in oil and gas to remain viable. Processes that rely on paperwork and disconnected applications can’t deliver the organization-wide visibility and real-time efficiency the future of the industry demands.
CTG helped one oil and gas company prepare for that future by engineering a digital tracking system to identify leaks at the production facility. CTG’s solution architects learned from interviews with multiple stakeholders that the system needed to combine robust functionality and deep customization options with intuitive controls. The architects devised a solution to meet all three requirements and serve as a vehicle for digital transformation by integrating data, reporting, and analytics under one umbrella.
Previously, the client’s environmental team relied on Microsoft Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. CTG migrated all of the legacy data into a new system and created automated triggers and workflows to streamline how the team responds to leaks. The system now monitors incoming data for leak indicators, then notifies the team for immediate response. It also automates the root-cause assessment to expedite solutions and institutes continuous improvement activities in response to persistent leaks.
This real-world example of digital transformation in oil and gas gives the environmental team members a number of advantages. They can comprehensively track and manage workflows for better results. They can also collect data from each stage of the incident response to improve future responses. Addressing a persistent problem like leak prevention with a proven methodology for digital transformation helped this company meet its compliance obligations while simultaneously reducing waste and improving operational efficiency.
CTG provides similar support to companies throughout the energy sector, including upstream, midstream, and downstream entities. Issues related to production efficiency, environmental performance, and safety compliance are all primed for digital transformation. The fundamental challenge is turning massive amounts of disorderly data into a manageable asset. CTG does that for clients in the oil and gas sector with information management solutions designed to make data insightful, accessible, and actionable across the board.
Healthcare
The pandemic put more stress on healthcare than any other industry. Doctors and nurses felt the strain, but so did the IT architecture that so much of modern healthcare runs on. For example, keeping massive numbers of patients informed about pandemic precautions, treatment measures, and vaccination protocols proved overwhelming in many cases.
One example of this information breakdown happened when California rolled out its vaccination program. Healthcare providers were immediately inundated with calls for vaccine information. Some saw call volumes increase by 2,500%, leading to long wait times and mounting public frustration.
Several university health systems enlisted CTG to make call centers more efficient at relaying information and scalable enough to handle the high call volume. CTG had the staff, technology, experience, and expertise to deliver a call center automation solution in under two weeks.
That solution ran on AWS Connect, which gave each call center access to cloud-based solutions along with unlimited bandwidth. The on-demand structure of AWS Connect was also beneficial because call centers could pay for the bandwidth they needed and cut costs during off-peak hours.
Just as important to the success of digital transformation was the creation of remote training structures. Limitless bandwidth wouldn’t matter if there were not enough representatives to field all the calls. Remote training enabled call centers to recruit and train representatives in much less time without compromising training quality. CTG helped recruit 112 new representatives in four weeks—the majority within the first two—representing a 333% increase in the total staff.
CTG’s solutions were informed by more than 30 years of experience using emerging technologies to solve challenges on short timelines. In a matter of weeks, they helped call centers increase their daily call volume capacity from 900 to more than 2,500.
The pandemic will force healthcare to reimagine how it operates. Organizations will need to embrace digital solutions widely to meet higher standards for care, compliance, and cost control. CTG has a track record of helping healthcare organizations overcome technical limitations and engineer innovative solutions that redefine expectations.
financial services
The financial services sector faces an ever-expanding regulatory burden. Digital technology can help companies stay compliant, but only if it accounts for important regulations like GDPR that mandate how to handle consumer data.
For example, one client in the financial services sector set out on a digital transformation initiative to migrate its email to the cloud. The company called CTG for help reaching various business and compliance requirements in the migration.
It needed a cloud email solution that allowed for searching and e-discovery for regulatory auditing purposes. With massive amounts of personal and financial information to keep safe, the company also needed a secure email solution protected by multi-factor authentication, ransomware protection, antispam, antivirus, conditional access, and customer key encryption. Data loss prevention and externalized backups were also important. Anything less than multi-layered security could have put data and compliance at risk, with expensive consequences for any breach.
CTG held interviews and workshops to explore all the client’s compliance and security needs alongside their expectations for a robust managed email solution. Based on that exploratory effort and CTG’s deep understanding of the current tech landscape, solutions architects and subject matter experts came up with a tailor-made solution using Microsoft 365.
The solution offered the enterprise-class functionality and extensive library of audit reports, guidelines, and certifications that the client needed to support compliance efforts. CTG configured compliance controls to meet the company’s precise needs. The end result was a cloud email solution that met every requirement and cost 25% less than other options.
This real-world example of digital transformation applies to email management, but financial services companies must also address compliance across IT, risk, QA, privacy office, legal, and human resources departments. It’s a complicated effort that spans departments, workflows, and tech solutions, making it ideal for digital transformation. CTG has the industry experience, regulatory expertise, and technical know-how to make compliance consistent, even automatic.
