Favorite Thing to Do Outside of Work: Cook for (and with) my family
I get up at 6 a.m. to get myself completely ready before my family wakes up. At around 6:40 a.m., my six-year-old son, Ryan, usually wanders in my room dressed and ready to tackle first grade. We head down for breakfast while my husband, Michael, gets ready. By 7 a.m., the “two dudes” are eating breakfast together and I head to work. My four-year-old daughter, Mary, usually gets up sometime in the midst of all this, but since she’s the only one with nowhere to be, she is free to play around the house.
Ideally, I would have left work the night before with a to-do list, but that doesn’t always happen. First thing in the morning, I tackle my inbox, answer the quick and easy emails right away, and prioritize from there. Some days I have back-to-back meetings, and other days I have time to work on whatever new Human Resources (HR) projects we have going on. I like to set aside time in the morning for project work so I can make sure it gets done!
I often feel like I play catch up all afternoon. I manage the Onboarding team, Background Checks team, and Training. There are days when we spend a lot of time with site/account teams working through issues or tweaking our processes to accommodate client requests.
I leave work at 4 p.m., which gives me a little breathing room in the evenings with my family. We typically play for a bit when I get home, then start dinner. My kids both like to help me cook, and it’s important that we eat as a family when we can. Weeknight meals are usually simple, and they like to cut/dump/spread/pour anything I will let them. We have dinner at 6 p.m., and most of the time, my husband walks in right as we’re sitting down to eat.
I just checked our HR record system, and I’ve had five job changes and nine manager changes in my time here! CTG provides so much opportunity to grow, and I’ve been fortunate to be in the right place at the right time on a few occasions, allowing me to grow professionally. Just over a year ago, I moved from the Benefits team back into HR, and within that year, I have taken on a manager role. I am borderline obsessed with efficiency, and I get so much job satisfaction out of managing these new teams because we’ve really taken a step back to see what processes we can make more efficient. I am so lucky that my team members embrace change, because I love to brainstorm with them about how we can do things better and how we can serve our internal clients in the best way possible.
