Favorite Thing to Do Outside of Work: be creative with flowers, walk, bike, travel, and spend time with family
My day starts with a very loud alarm clock. My husband prefers the radio, but honestly, that won’t wake me. Then it’s a trip of 40 km from my home to the office, which usually takes an hour. I drive through very small villages, but it’s better than taking highways. When I reach the CTG Belgium office, it’s time to get to work.
My marketing job at CTG is about combining efforts to put our company on the market in Europe the best way possible. Right now, we’re beginning to work with a new public relations company. It’s my job to help them get to know the European branch of our company, so we can work together to put the best face of CTG forward. I organized several meetings for them in Belgium and Luxembourg. Today, we have a call with them to hear their plans, capture the needs of different teams, come up with ideas, and make first engagements. It has been exciting to make new plans for CTG!
However, public relations are only a small part of my job. I also work to promote CTG through mailings, events, social media campaigns, and so on. At 2:30 p.m., I’m done with meetings and ready to return to my desk. I come back with a whole list of notes and to-do’s that need to be covered, planned, communicated, and/or shared. I already have a colleague waiting for me – we have an appointment to discuss the organization of our first event in Belgium for the year.
After that, I prepare text and pictures for a new social media post and respond to some emails – I still get surprised by the number of emails that hit your inbox when you are away for a couple of hours!
After that, I have a look at my agenda for the day after. I had promised myself to leave the office around 5 p.m. today, and I almost succeeded. Anyway, I am quite happy about my day, and I give my family a call before I head home.
I’m very lucky to have a husband who likes cooking, so when I come home, dinner is always ready! I thoroughly enjoy that every day.
I started working at CTG in 1989. If you have been that long with one company, of course, that company becomes part of your life. I don’t think I have an easy job, I admit that sometimes I wonder whether what I do is not too much for one person, but I am happy at CTG and that is probably why I can handle it. My job is very diverse; no day is the same. I work together with so many different people, and I am always glad to offer help and pleased when campaigns turn outright. Since last year, the collaboration with our Marketing colleagues in the U.S. has become much more intense, and that’s inspiring me too.
I would like to conclude with a quote from a person that I worked for at the beginning of my CTG career. He always said to me: “Christine, make sure that you are happy at home because then you can handle the world.” I think he was a wise man.
