Favorite Thing to Do Outside of Work: Spending time with my wife and daughter, watching football, playing basketball and role-playing games, and collecting comic books (I’m a little bit of a nerd.)
I start my day between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m. each morning. I get myself ready for work while my wife gets our three-year-old ready for daycare. The kiddo and I are out of the house by about 7:30 a.m. so I can drop her off at daycare and get to the office by about 8:00 a.m. Once I get to the office and get my first cup of coffee, I typically check my email and review my assigned tasks in Microsoft Planner.
Most of my current assignments involve reviewing and improving upon existing SQL-based reports. In the past, the majority of client reports had to be generated/refreshed manually and exported to Excel files. I take one of those reports, clean up its code, and use that code to create an updated report within Microsoft Power BI, our business intelligence tool. This allows users to view and interact with their report via a web browser. The new reports can be scheduled to refresh automatically and users can filter the results via any number of provided filters, all without having to export and maintain anything in Excel files. It provides for a more efficient user experience and insights on data that might have otherwise been missed.
Having a toddler, my wife and I try to keep our evenings as structured and consistent as we can. I pick the little one up from daycare so my wife can get home from work first and start cooking dinner in peace. After dinner, I take our dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Once I’m back, we have some free time to play with our daughter before reading her a book or two and getting her to sleep. After that, my wife and I have an hour or two to read our own books or catch up on some TV before calling it a night!
I’ve enjoyed the short time I’ve spent with CTG. I feel that our leadership trusts me to be independent and use my judgement and experience to produce the quality work that my team and I are capable of. My CTG coworkers have been great as well. From day one, they’ve made me feel welcome and part of the team. I hope and plan to stick around CTG for the foreseeable future.
